Officer Mark Wood with the Brentwood Police Department will join us to share their Active Attack training as well as other safety recommendations and tools to utilize in our professional and personal lives.

Prior to joining the Brentwood Police Department in October of 1990, Officer Wood earned his Bachelor’s degree in Science from Middle Tennessee State University. With a background in martial arts, Officer Wood was quickly given the opportunity to serve as the department’s Defensive Tactics Instructor in 1992. Officer Wood earned instructor certifications in PPCT Defensive Tactics, PPCT Side-handle Baton, PPCT Spontaneous Knife Defense, ASP Expandable Baton, and SSGT Defensive Tactics Levels One and Two.
Officer Wood also served the department as a Crime Scene Technician for three years. In 1995, Officer Wood volunteered as a D.A.R.E. Officer for the department. Officer Wood is certified to teach Elementary, Middle, and High School D.A.R.E. curricula. Officer Wood is also a certified Crime Prevention Specialist, a certified Advanced Crime Prevention through Environmental Design Specialist, and a certified Law Enforcement Security Assessment Specialist through The American Crime Prevention Institute. In 2007, Officer Wood became the department’s second R.A.D. (Rape Aggression Defense) Instructor.
In 2011, he completed 40 hours of Use of Force Instructor Certification training in impact weapons, excited delirium, and OC spray. In 2012, Officer Wood was recertified in SSGT Vanguard Level One and Two Defensive Tactics systems. Officer Wood also became a certified Defensive Driving Instructor through the National Safety Council. In May of 2012, he earned his 3rd Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. In October of 2014 Officer Wood successfully completed the F.B.I. Firearms Instructor Course in Memphis, Tennessee. He currently serves as one of the department’s Firearms Instructors.
He is also a certified Smith & Wesson M&P Pistol and Rifle Armorer as well as a Remington 870 Shotgun and 700 Rifle Armorer. In 2015, Officer Wood was certified in the R.A.D. Advanced and Weapons Defense Systems. In 2016, Officer Wood was certified to teach the CRASE (Citizen Response to Active Shooter Events) course to civilians. In 2017, Officer Wood was certified as a Glock Pistol Armorer. In 2018, Officer Wood was certified to teach R.A.D. for Seniors at their annual training conference.
Officer Wood has been married to his lovely wife Kathy for 30 years and is the proud father of his 20-year-old son Ezra. Officer Wood currently serves as one of two D.A.R.E./Crime Prevention Officers for the department.
